We have put together a guide to how to structure information, and who to send it to.
Article structure and word count
Introduction paragraph and summary
Make the first paragraph a summary of what is in the article. Try to keep the first paragraph to five sentences or less, and sentences to around 20 words.
Main body
Aim for approximately 500 to 800 words for the main body of the article.
Keep the main body of the article concise and written in Plain English. Use headings and bullet-point lists to break up the text, and make it easier to read.
Links / Interest tips or facts
Include additional information about your subject in a list format. This may include interesting facts or links to further information elsewhere.
How to get there
If the article is about visiting somewhere or going for a walk, consider adding information about getting there, accessibility and parking.
If the article is about a venue or organisation, please include and link to their website address. Don’t list any visiting times or events for that venue as these may become out of date, instead, refer the visitor to the organisation or venues website.
Images
You can essentially add as many images as you like to the page, but to ensure the page is quick to load and manageable, we suggest you have between two and six images per article.
Images need to be of good quality. In terms of size, they should have a resolution of 72 dots per inch (dpi) and no smaller than 2000 pixels on the smallest axis.
Images should be for illustration purposes only and should not contain important text information. They should not include important written information as people accessing the site using screen-reading technology will not be able to read this.
Images should include a caption that describes what is shown in the image. You must ensure that you have permission from the copyright owner to publish the image (this would usually be the photographer).
