The project is titled, ‘First We Eat’, and will be a series of creative conversations over food, in and around Fairfields and Whitehouse. Quiet Down There will set up a ‘table for two’ in cafes, on park benches and picnic tables, allotments and other public spaces. The topic of conversation will be chosen by the participants from a menu of topics and will relate to furniture inside and out such as ‘my kitchen table’, ‘armchair critic’ or ‘cupboard love’.
Lucy Jefferies and the team at Quiet Down There will work with a local coordinator to offer a free breakfast, lunch or dinner to participants and speak to as many people as possible. For the next couple of months, they will be getting things ready and then in 2022 they will be inviting people to join them as they pop up around Fairfields and Whitehouse, hosting conversations.
The information they gather will inform the first ‘furniture’ commission that is set out in the Public Art Plan, it will offer both a sculptural form and functional use. If you would like more information about the project please email lucy@quietdownthere.co.uk
More information
Quiet Down There are a community interest company that works creatively outside of arts venues such as galleries or theatres. We host creative sessions, lunches, discussion groups and free events in markets, charity shops, laundrettes, libraries and in community parks and gardens. We work with individuals and groups to create opportunities that are fun, sociable and relevant for the people who live nearby. We are very excited to get to know the residents of Fairfields and Whitehouse and cannot wait to hear people’s ideas for using their public space. For more information about Quiet Down There, see their website and updates will be posted on this website.
